Before Your Visit
Four steps, in order.
Each step depends on the one before it, so working through them in sequence avoids repeated calls.
Call your health plan first
Use the member services number on the back of your card. Ask whether Dallas Regenex and Dr. Abdul Baker are in network for your specific plan, and whether neurosurgery requires a referral.
Confirm with the office
The scheduling team verifies benefits before your visit and can tell you what is on file for your plan at the Plano or Sherman location.
Ask about prior authorization
Imaging, injections, and surgical procedures often require authorization before they are scheduled. The office submits these requests; timelines are set by your plan.
Request an estimate
Ask for a good-faith estimate of your expected responsibility. Deductibles, coinsurance, and facility fees vary and are separate from the surgeon's fee.
This page does not list participating plans. Network participation changes by plan, product line, and location, and an out-of-date list can lead a patient to believe they are covered when they are not. Verify with your plan and the office before every visit.
What to Ask
Questions worth asking your plan.
- Is a referral required?
- Many HMO and some POS plans require a referral from your primary care physician before a specialist visit.
- What is my specialist copay?
- This is usually different from your primary care copay and is listed on your member card or plan documents.
- Has my deductible been met?
- Your responsibility for imaging and procedures depends heavily on where you are in the plan year.
- Is the facility in network too?
- A surgeon and the hospital or surgery center are billed separately and can have different network status.
Self-Pay & Financing
Not using insurance?
Self-pay pricing is available for consultations and some procedures, and the office can explain what a written estimate covers. International patients should also ask which records are needed before travel is arranged.
